My toxic trait is thinking that software developers need certification and standards of quality set by a governing body if they want to call themselves engineers the way people who build bridges do. https://www.theverge.com/2024/5/9/24152633/fda-recall-tandem-diabetes-care-insulin-pump-mobile-app
@eric so much this. Mine is thinking that common features should have standard, certified ways to build them. That way, implementing and debugging them could follow expected guidelines. This would also help with certification, allowing devs to focus on true problems, new features, and more. ISO > w3C.
@eric on a related note, I’m looking for an engineering job, and LinkedIn keeps sending me roles where the job title is something like “Head of Engineering”, or “Engineering Director”, but is actually software development presumably with a sprinkling of team leadership thrown in.
And eyewatering salaries
@eric I completely agree with this, which is why I refuse to use the phrase "software engineer."

Once again The Verge are doing the lord's work.
